A foggy New Year's Eve has turned into a cloudy and chilly start to the new year.

A slow-moving upper disturbance was expected to cause a few sprinkles in the northern part of North Texas today, with a few "sleet pellets or flurries" possible through midmorning, the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth said.

Less than a quarter-inch of rain was expected, with partial sunshine due into the western half of North Texas in the afternoon, forecasters said.

Highs will be in the mid-40s, with a chilly north wind. Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s.

The new year will bring cold mornings the rest of the week and chilly temperatures during the days.

North Texas doesn't really warm up until Friday when temperatures will be in the lower 50s. Weekend temperatures are forecast to be in the mid- to upper 50s.
