Hurst L.D. Bell's defense drives Boswell title win

On a day when the offense was out of sync, Hurst L.D. Bell turned to the defense in a 50-38 victory over Little Elm to claim the championship trophy of the Boswell Holiday Invitational Tournament.

The Blue Raiders (19-3) made just 15 of 63 shots (23.8 percent) Saturday. Their defensive pressure, however, forced Little Elm into 30 turnovers.

Cierra Johnson, who finished with 15 points, and Maggie Lockwood (13) sparked a 12-2 second-half run for Bell.

Richland 54, Haltom 37: The Rebels (15-5) took third place, going on a 21-6 run in the second quarter for a 34-17 lead. Destiny Nunley led the Rebels with 18 points.

Saginaw Boswell 47, FW Southwest 37: The Pioneers won the consolation championship. Boswell's Kirra Smith made 3 of 4 free throws late, and Victoria Seay added a layup.

Fort Worth Christian 51, Abilene 49: The Cardinals took home fifth in the Silver bracket after holding off a fourth-quarter Abilene rally.

Fossil Ridge 71, Western Hills 46: Grayson Bright scored 18 points and Allyson Te'o 17 as the Panthers (13-9) grabbed third in consolation.

Sandra Meadows Classic

Class 3A Kennedale (16-6) finished sixth in the 32-team field, falling 68-54 to 5A state-ranked League City Clear Springs. Autumn Williams led Kennedale with 28 points in beating Cedar Park Vista Ridge and had 18 against Clear Springs.

Colleyville Heritage (16-9) advanced to the consolation finals, winning a 43-42 squeaker over Texas Home Educators Sports Association (THESA) before falling 54-35 to Frisco Liberty.
