Haltom girls hang on to drop Saginaw Boswell

Haltom held off host team Saginaw Boswell 37-30 in Thursday's opening round of the Boswell Holiday Tournament.

Boswell (12-7) scored just 13 points through three quarters, but with 1:50 to play, pulled within 29-28 on a jumper by Megan Ledbetter. The teams exchanged turnovers before Haltom's Taylor Dangerfield extended the lead to 31-28 with 57 seconds to play.

"They're a group of fighters and they have always been that way," Haltom coach Mandy Rogers said. "There aren't any excuses, we got scared there."

Richland 39, Trophy Club Nelson 31: Destiny Nunley scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Rebels over Trophy Club.

Joshua 38 Carrollton Turner 37: Kalie Schuman hit a jumper with two seconds left to lift the Owls (7-11) past the Lions.

Fort Worth Christian 57, FW Western Hills 54: The Cardinals, ranked 20th in the TABC private school rankings, needed a pair of free throws from Kym Young with 7.5 seconds left to seal the victory.

Hurst L.D. Bell 68, Keller Fossil Ridge 41: The Blue Raiders had three players in double figures, led by Cierra Johnson's 19 points, to advance in the winner's bracket.

Keller Timber Creek 58, Arlington 28: Emily Spector scored 12 points to lead the Falcons past Arlington.

Memphis (Tenn.) Overton 40, Colleyville Heritage 36: Aggressive Overton took a big early lead.

Kennedale 64, Euless Trinity 24: The Class 3A Lady Kats will face the Woodlands this morning.

Beaumont Ozen 87, FW Dunbar 52: Taylor Dorsey scored 24 points in defeat against state-ranked Ozen. Dunbar plays Waxahachie today.

DeSoto defeated Richardson 63-40 and Mobile (Ala.) Murphy, 43-31.
