Fans to the Whataburger Orange tournament in Haltom City received disappointing news Thursday morning when it was announced that Little Rock Parkview will not be on hand to defend its title.
The Patriots, who had an appealing first-round matchup scheduled with Texas state-ranked Richardson Berkner, could not make the trip from Arkansas because of hazardous road conditions caused by the Christmas day winter storm.
Parkview defeated Milwaukee King in 2011 to win its first tournament.
Instead, Berkner will receive a bye into the second round and play the winner of the first-round game between North Crowley and Fort Worth Trimble Tech at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
The loser of North Crowley and Trimble Tech will receive a bye into the consolation semifinals.
The first-round consolation game between the loser of the games between Coppell-Bullitt East (Ky.) and Rowlett-Arlington, originally scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday, will now be played at 3:30 p.m. on that day.
