FORT WORTH _ The snow is almost gone, but cold mornings, slightly warmer days and chances of a wet New Year's holiday are ahead.

"It looks like winter is here to stay, for at least a few days," said meteorologist Ted Ryan of the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

The temperature at DFW Airport rose above freezing for the first time in almost two days Thursday afternoon, when the high hit 43 degrees.

Friday's high should be around 40 degrees in the morning before falling back into the 30s by noon. The forecast calls for highs in the mid to upper 40s from Saturday into next Thursday.

But residents will wake up to cold temperatures each day.

A Pacific front will arrive Monday, bringing with it good chances of rain on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Forecasters say there's a 40 percent chance of rain Monday evening and a 30 percent chance on New Year's Day.

"It's going to be a cold rain," Ryan said. "Right now, that rain could be here all week or it could be gone in a few days."

Life at DFW Airport was slowly getting back to normal Thursday as officials recovered from hundreds of flight cancellations on Christmas Day and Wednesday after wintery weather hit North Texas.

On Thursday, about 110 flights were cancelled because the snowy weather has moved to the eastern half of the United States, creating departure problems in North Texas.
