To the idiots who stopped progress on avoiding the "fiscal cliff":

Let me explain this to you, since you either flunked, slept through or didn't take your government class. This is the United States of America. We are governed under a representative form of democracy. There are three branches of our government: executive, legislative and judicial. The first two are elected, the third nominated by the executive branch and confirmed by the legislative.

You were elected to the legislative branch of government, specifically the House of Representatives. Whatever the ruling of the Supreme Court regarding the personhood of corporations, you were elected by the citizens of your district to represent their interests, needs and wishes.

In words of few syllables, Grover Norquist does not govern our country. Your adherence to his pledge violates your oath of office and the interests of your constituency as well as the rest of the country. The Heritage Foundation does not govern our country. Neither does Club for Growth or Teaparty.net. Whatever their numbers, they do not equal the number of constituents you represent.

Develop some backbone, burn that agreement and sit down to negotiations with open ears and an open mind. It's not all your way or my way; it's our way. Find it.

Fort Worth
