In Bud Kennedy's column Wednesday, he quoted the Mansfield school district police chief as saying, "If a teacher had a gun and a bad guy has a gun, it's tough for us to tell who's the good guy." (See: "Guns already allowed in Texas schools")

If a policeman receives a call to a school about a shooting and he enters a kindergarten class and sees a dude in a mask and body armor with an AR-15, and he also sees a young woman pulling a small pistol from her purse, he should know (from his training) who the bad guy is.

If not, he needs to return to the police academy target range, where the various targets pop up at you and you have less than two seconds to determine if the target you are going to shoot dead is a good guy or a bad guy.
