Sick of excuses

I am sick of people hiding behind the Second Amendment because they are too lazy to reload at a gun range.

I am sick of the NRA, the gun lobby, gun dealers and gun manufacturers hiding behind the Second Amendment to enhance their power, sway elections and improve their business portfolio.

I am sick of people hollering about their "liberty" and "freedom" because they feel disabused when anybody wants to pass sensible gun laws like an assault weapons ban, a ban on oversized clips or waiting periods and background checks. I am sick of people toting the absurd argument that owning a gun protects from a tyrannical government. If you want to see tyranny in action, go to Syria.

And I am sick of the abject stupidity emanating from people like Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert, who spew unconscionable rhetoric that arming teachers would have prevented the Newtown massacre.

Since 1979, more than 119,000 children and teenagers in this country have been killed by gun violence. What about their freedom?

If people really think that owning military-style weapons is worth the life of 20 six-year-olds, then I am very sorry for you.
