No lack of gun laws

The Connecticut tragedy is the political rallying point for gun control advocates to renew cries for new laws.

Some people cling to the idea that firearms should be limited to military and law enforcement. Ignored is what obviously was the original intent in the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

The deaths at the school did not occur because of a lack of gun laws. They happened, apparently, because society's lack of provision for mentally limited citizens. That seems to be a government budget problem.

What institutions in our society are best to deal with those issues, private or government? The easy answer for many is government, but I suggest the success rate would fall behind what generously supported private efforts could do.

Another issue is clear again: The establishment of gun-free zones merely acts as a magnet for deranged and criminally motivated people.

They can go to a gun-free zone and know that citizens legitimately licensed for firearms will not be present with any defense capability.

Would not somebody in the administration of that school, properly trained and licensed for a firearm, been able, at least, to cause the death toll to be less than over two dozen?
