A truck driver was airflifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas early Friday after he wrecked his vehicle in Grapevine, police said.

The wreck occurred at 12:47 a.m. in a construction zone on northbound Texas State Highway 121 at the exit to William D. Tate Avenue, said Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department. The driver was pinned in the wreckage for some time before emergency crews freed him.

Television news stations, which described the truck as a street sweeper, reported that the truck rolled into a ditch.

The exit to William D. Tate Avenue was closed for about two hours, Eberling said.

The driver's condition was unknown Friday morning, but Eberling said emergency crews believed he would survive.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation, he said.
