Hagen Hutchinson accounted for four touchdowns, including a 9-yard run that proved to be the game-winner with 32 seconds left, to lift Stamford to a 35-28 come-from-behind victory over Mart in the Class A Division I state championship game Thursday.
The senior quarterback/defensive back was selected the game's offensive and defensive Most Valuable Player. He accumulated 132 yards rushing and had two rushing touchdowns. He also was 22 for 30 passing for 248 yards, with two scoring passes to James Washington.
On defense, Hutchinson made 16 tackles, and he sealed the victory with an interception on Mart's last-ditch effort with 8 seconds left.
Stamford won its first state title in 53 years.
2A Division II: TCU recruit Ty Slanina had four rushing touchdowns and East Bernard (15-0) capped an undefeated season with a 56-14 victory against Corsicana Mildred (13-2). Slanina scored on runs of 35, 2, 76 and 12 yards and finished with 167 yards on the ground. He also threw for a score. Mildred (13-2) was held to 126 yards, including 47 in the first half.
1A Division II: Dee Paul rushed for 263 yards and three long touchdowns and Munday (15-0) beat Tenaha 42-14. Paul had a 57-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and the quarterback scored from 55 and 60 yards during a decisive second-half surge. Munday racked up 483 total yards, including 287 in the second half. Tenaha (10-5) was held to 101 yards after halftime.
