Yet another letter expressed outrage and chagrin at an ill-conceived, nonsensical and misguided policy regarding surface parking in the Cultural District. (See: "Parking fees," Friday) When are the powers that be at Fort Worth City Hall going to get the message that the current system is inefficient, understaffed (ridiculously long lines of cars waiting to enter and pay at the gate), inconsistent (charging one patron $8 and the car next to her $5) and unfair (relatives of children performing and volunteers paying multiple times for rehearsals over several days)?

How long is the city going to perpetuate this public relations debacle? Hundreds, if not thousands, of Fort Worth households are affected every year when volunteers and parents supporting cash-strapped nonprofit arts groups have to pay parking fees repeatedly for events at the Scott Theatre and Will Rogers Auditorium, adding significantly to the cost of any event. Also hurt are countless small business vendors at events in the Roundup Inn.

During her election campaign, Mayor Betsy Price called the parking fee situation unacceptable and needing a major remedy. Surely there is an innovative public/private partnership solution out there waiting for someone to step out of the box and fix this.
