Honoring a soldier

Please allow me to express my deepest sympathy in the death of Staff Sgt. Nelson D. Trent defending our country. (See: "Texas soldier killed in attack in Afghanistan," online Monday)

I can not fathom the depth of his family's grief, but please know his death has not gone unnoticed. He gave his life that we might live in freedom from fear.

My son is a senior at The Citadel, the military college in South Carolina, and I look at him and think, what if?

My prayers will be for his family in the days ahead. May God surround them with his angels.
