A former volunteer firefighter was in the Tarrant County Jail Wednesday facing an arson charge.

Gene Fox, 17, who has volunteered with the Pelican Bay fire department, was arrested Wednesday, according to jail records. No bail amount was listed.

Pelican Bay is a community on the western shore of Eagle Mountain Lake in northwest Tarrant County.

Tarrant County Fire Marshal Randy Renois said the case involved the burning of large hay bales on property that the Tarrant Regional Water District leases to farmers. Renois, contacted late Wednesday, said he did not have details of the offense at hand and did not know if Fox was still a volunteer firefighter at the time.

Fox had been under investigation for some time and was arrested on a warrant Wednesday, Renois said.
