The Republicans are responsible for having Susan Rice jettisoned from consideration to be nominated for this nation's highest diplomatic post, secretary of state. To appease her critics, she capitulated and removed herself from the running.

This Stanford University graduate and Rhodes scholar will long be in the spotlight even after Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham are done trying to open up the can of worms that blocked her potential nomination. Now that Sen. John Kerry is in line for nomination for secretary of state, McCain and Graham will likely again try to open Pandora's Box.

In Kerry's 2004 presidential bid, his critics cited his military service as being whitewashed and claimed inaccurate achievements attributed to him in his military jacket. They gave him hell.

Kerry served his country with honor. How many of his critics have served anything but themselves?
