Should the Cowboys allow Josh Brent to stand on the sidelines?

IRVING -- Nose tackle Josh Brent will not be allowed on the Dallas Cowboys' sideline for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints or any possible upcoming playoff games.

The team decided to bar Brent from the sidelines after the negative feedback received regarding his presence at Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to sources.

Brent is on the reserve non-football injury/illness list after being charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of practice squad linebacker Jerry Brown.

At the urging of Brown's mother, Stacey Jackson, the Cowboys made a point to continue to support Brent, allowing him to go to the team facilities. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett didn't know he would be at the Steelers game. He was there at the urging his teammates, but left after halftime when he realized his presence was becoming a distraction.

"It becomes a real sensitive topic to a lot of people when you're in a public place like the game," Garrett said Monday. "There were no bad intentions other than to support Josh as part of our football team."

Bryant factor

Dez Bryant's insistence last week that he was playing despite a broken finger proved to be a rallying point for the Cowboys.

"I think it has a real positive impact on your football team," Jason Garrett said. "We had to make sure we went through the whole process of seeing what the doctor said and all of that and talk it through.

"But right from the start, he said, 'I am playing.' I think that is a real tribute to his toughness, first and foremost, as a human being and his passion for playing and passion for this football team."

Bryant caught four passes on nine targets for 59 yards and a touchdown, his sixth consecutive game with a touchdown, in the 27-24 overtime victory against Pittsburgh.

Jenkins watch

Inexperience got the best of Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins on a few plays as he played the slot cornerback position against the Steelers, but overall, he did a good job, Jason Garrett said.

Jenkins had to handle Antonio Brown in the slot most of the game, and Brown made plays, including a 7-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter that put the Steelers ahead 24-17.

"When you play inside, things happen on both sides of you," Garrett said. "When you play outside, typically the cornerback is inside and there's a different perspective on it."

Jenkins finished with four tackles.

Practice squad moves

The Cowboys released defensive tackle Robert Rose from the practice squad and signed defensive end Ikponmwosa Igbinosun.
