HALTOM CITY -- Apparently, the sound of a car backfiring led to a one-hour lockdown at Birdville Elementary School this morning.
The school at 3126 Bewley Street in Haltom City was put on alert about 8 a.m. after a report of possible shots fired, according to a message posted on the school website.There were no shots fired in the school building and no one was injured, the message stated.Administrators later said that the sound apparently was a car backfiring.Police were at the scene. As a precaution, the elementary school and the Shannon Learning Center were placed on lockdown.Many parents elected to take their children home after the lockdown.Have more to add? News tip?
