It is the job of the Supreme Court to interpret the Constitution, not to bow to public polling. To think for one nano second that the founders approved gay marriage is to be completely irrational. They never conceived of such a thing.
Sure there were gays at that time as there have been throughout history. But to allow marriage -- not possible. The founders were aware of thousands of years of considering gay behavior an "abomination." While they had to compromise over African slavery in order to coax 13 colonies to band together to make a nation, the thought of abandoning Biblical principles never crossed their minds. Now, is the Constitution a framework for law or is it a framework for whatever society at the time prefers? It took a constitutional amendment to end African slavery -- it should take the same to add gay marriage to the law of the land, not a court decision on the meaning of the wording in the Constitution.-- Rick Weintraub, ArlingtonHave more to add?
