When a Fort Worth resident filed a code violation complaint about appointing people from the natural gas industry as voting members of a committee dealing with air pollution, the Ethics Review Committee (ERC) ruled that this was, in fact, a violation. There are much better ways to secure the needed expertise on city task forces. If you are concerned about openness and fairness in your city government, I urge you to tell council members (before Tuesday's vote) that a conflict of interest is an ethics violation, and that the proposed changes to the code are unacceptable.
