Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a six-alarm blaze Thursday morning at Adell Community Fellowship Church northwest of Weatherford.

The fire was reported about 8 a.m. at the 12,000 square-foot church on Adell Circle and Farm Road 1885, Joel Kertok, a spokesman for the Parker County Emergency Management Office, said.

Firefighters from about 18 departments had the blaze under control before 1 p.m., he said.

"They were able to keep the fire contained to the building, which was very important on a day like this with the strong south winds and the dry vegetation," he said Thursday.

Nobody was inside when the fire broke out Thursday morning in the church's sanctuary, Kertok said.

"The firefighters did a great job. No civilians were injured; no firefighters were injured," Kertok said. "They were able to keep the fire contained to the building which was something very important on a day like this with the strong south winds and the dry vegetation."

Kertok said arson investigators and the church's insurance company will investigate the cause of the fire but said there was no immediate reason to suspect arson.

Kertok said the non-denominational church has a congregation of about 90 members. He said the church is planning to hold Sunday services in their original sanctuary, located on the same property.
