A 41-year-old man died Wednesday morning of injuries sustained when a trash truck picked up a commercial garbage container where he had been sleeping, police said.

Chad Adams, hometown unavailable, was pronounced dead at 8:38 a.m. at John Peter Smith Hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

Paramedics and police got a call shortly before 7 a.m. about a possible injury at East Lancaster and North Hughes avenues. A police report put the location in the parking lot of an O'Reilly Auto Parts store.

Workers told authorities that they stopped the compactor when they heard screaming.

The cause of death was "crush injuries of pelvis" after "entrapment in mechanical trash compactor," the medical examiner reported.
