Regarding Ken Herman's Sunday column, "George Bush re-emerges as voice on immigration": Saying illegal immigrants "have become true Americans" would be fine, but what is a true American?
To become a U.S. citizen, one would need to be able to read, write and speak English. If that is the case, let's start by eliminating Spanish from all the forms (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, voting) reserved for "true Americans."In addition, any job requirements calling for Spanish-speaking persons should be considered discriminatory, since that in many instances would eliminate some "true Americans." If you want to become a "true American," let's start by learning the language of the land.-- Jay Trees, Trophy ClubHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
