There was a time when a professional baseball team would adhere to having as strong a pitching staff as it could achieve. The theory was to have at least three starting pitchers capable of winning 20 games per season. They were expected to go nine innings.

Pitchers are the heart and soul of a baseball team and should be compensated accordingly. Until the Texas Rangers acknowledge this, they will always be an also-ran. Home run hitters are fun to watch, but they will never win you a World Series without reliable pitching.
