Rarely do I find myself in agreement with President Obama. However, with respect to avoiding the "fiscal cliff," I am inclined to agree with his proposal that there be some extra tax on the "rich" instead of deletion of all deductions. In particular, charitable deductions. Charities tend to perform acts of humanitarianism in ways excelling those of a central government. Also, charitable deductions benefit those less fortunate among us, not simply the wealthy.
I would urge Congress, including the Republicans, to have the rich pay a little more by way of the tax rate instead of discouraging everyone from contributing to the improvement of society by private charitable endeavors.-- Thomas F. Harkins, Jr., Fort WorthHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
