A Dallas capital murder suspect briefly escaped from custody late Tuesday after he reportedly grabbed a sheriff's deputy's gun at Parkland Memorial Hospital where he had been taken for treatment, according to TV news reports.
Franklin B. Davis of Irving barricaded himself in a van near the intersection of Harry Hines Boulevard and Reagan Street about 8:30 p.m. Dallas police and Dallas County sheriff's deputies surrounded the van.Davis was back in custoday about 10:45 p.m.The incident began about 8:30 p.m. when an inmate grabbed a gun from a deputy who was guarding him at the hospital.Davis , 30, had been in custody since September and was charged with murder in the death of Shania Gray, a student at Hebron High School in Carrollton.Davis had earlier been charged with four counts of sexual assault of a child in Mesquite.
