D/FW AIRPORT -- A disruptive passenger forced an American Airlines flight to return to a terminal at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport on Monday afternoon, officials said.
American 2137 was taxiing to a runway to depart for Guatemala City when a 23-year-old passenger made comments that were interpreted as dangerous.The passenger said he didn't want to fly any more and when the flight attendant asked him to be seated, the man said there were problems with his luggage, said American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely. The pilot, who was alerted, decided to return the plane to the gate.Airport spokesman David Magaña said airport public safety personnel, the FBI and airline security checked the aircraft after all passengers disembarked. A 23-year-old Guatemalan citizen was detained and questioned by federal authorities, Magaña said.The Boeing 737-800 had 150 passengers and six crewmembers on board. The flight was originally scheduled to depart at 4:45 p.m., flying from DFW to Guatemala City.Later, the passengers, who were rescreened, boarded the same aircraft.
