Martin running back Kyle Hicks switches commitment from Texas to TCU

A

TCU picked up a commitment Monday from Arlington Martin running back Kyle Hicks, who had originally pledged to Texas.

Former Martin teammate and future fellow Horned Frog Devonte Fields broke the story via Twitter.

"I just couldn't pass it up, it's a great offer," said Hicks, who said he committed to TCU around 1 p.m. "It's an outstanding football team and program, I can get a great education there and then, on top of that it's like 15 minutes from home. It doesn't get any better than that."

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Hicks, who has been clocked at 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, rushed for 1,667 yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior in 2011. This past season Hicks took on the added role of a running back/quarterback hybrid position en route to 1,113 yards rushing, 458 yards passing and 28 total touchdowns in just nine games.

As a undisputed four-star recruit by several publications, Hicks becomes the highest-rated prospect of the Horned Frogs' 2013 class to date.

Martin coach Bob Wager said Monday that Hicks had been struggling with the decision for weeks and it weighed heavily on him.

"I didn't want to see him make a hasty decision, and this was not," Wager said. "He took the time to really dig deep and think about it and, to quote him, he followed his heart."
