I believe all Americans have a responsibility for the preservation of our constitutional republic. Mothers have a particularly substantial responsibility for the preservation of our American heritage of freedom.

It is the American mother who has the primary task for raising the next generation of American citizens. "Republican motherhood" is an expression that means women during the Revolutionary period in American history defined their role in government by educating themselves and by preparing their children to be informed future leaders.

The concept of "Republican Motherhood" is becoming increasingly more necessary in this turbulent social climate of 21st-century America. As American mothers, we must refocus on strengthening America's core values by putting God first in our lives and in our homes. And we must embrace and instill the civic values of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution in our families, our children, our schools and our communities.

Only by doing so will we help to unify our country and its citizens and ensure our nation continues to prosper and democracy continues to thrive.
