Interlochen 'spirit'

It is a rare occasion that I agree with Bud Kennedy on anything (except his right to free speech). However, his Friday column, "Grinches of Interlochen browbeat bell-ringers," was 100 percent on target.

It appears that some Interlochen residents have forgotten what Christmas is about. Their lights are, indeed, wonderful entertainment, as some 40,000 visitors per year will testify. I hope it will continue.

On the other hand, the Salvation Army uses the money it collects for something other than a "wow, what a show" feeling. They put food on the table of those who might not eat and clothes on the backs of those who might otherwise be cold.

That, to me, is the true spirit of Christmas.

Interlochen should be proud to include the Salvation Army in its show to give a meaningful Christmas gift to so many who need our help.
