Boo to the Parade of Lights' surly treatment of paradegoers Nov. 23.
My 85-year-old mother and I arrived downtown three hours early to find a good place to watch the parade. A parade representative told us we had to get off the bricks behind paid seating because that was reserved for wheelchairs and strollers.Another parade representative said we had to move 10 feet farther back by the building. We complied. Another paradegoer said she was on the west side of Houston and was told she needed a ticket to stand on the sidewalk. As taxpayers, we own those sidewalks. Sure enough, when the parade finally started, four rows of people rushed to stand in front of us, and my mother could barely see anything. I sarcastically thanked the parade representative for causing us to lose our spots, and he replied, "You're welcome."Poor form, Fort Worth. Your eagerness to build revenue by selling seats led to stupid rules enforced by security wannabes with no common sense.-- Tammy Bailey, Fort WorthHave more to add? News tip? Tell us
