As a fifth-generation Texan, I am really getting tired of these radical kooks wasting our time with hogwash. (See: "Secessionists get attention through White House site," Nov. 14)

We have enough trouble with a governor who keeps turning down money from the federal government (our money, by the way); a Legislature that has stolen from Peter to pay Paul and left both broke; and an education system that is woefully under-funded and in need of a curriculum overhaul.

We need to get real about the problems we have and solve them. We need the best minds our state has to come forward with commonsense solutions to fund our state government so that we can once again claim the best schools, best highways, best parks, best towns and cities and the best state in the union.

I used to hate the phrase "love it or leave it," but it's sounding a lot better.
