If you hear someone speak ill of today's kids, remind them of the colossal event staged recently by the students from Arlington High School.

The students, faculty and staff came together as one to show their love and respect to staff member Cindy Stewart, who is enduring her fifth year fighting an incurable form of breast cancer.

Senior Reese Lyle came up with the idea for a fundraiser. He shared his thoughts with other students and faculty members, and the idea took off. The plan culminated in a weeklong celebration. They solicited local restaurants to host fundraiser nights and sold T-shirts, note cards and bracelets. The students made video messages, drew posters and banners and displayed them throughout the school.

Their goal of $5,000 was exceeded by the second day. All this for someone many had never met!

Each day, my wife struggles with weakness and pain. However, it is the love displayed by the students and faculty that gives her that quality of life that keeps her in this fight.

Thank you, Reese Lyle and our Arlington High family.
