In Monday's Business section of the Star-Telegram, a headline read, "Despite strong rebound, GM faces signs of trouble." The caption under a photograph states, "GM makes large SUVs at its assembly plant in Arlington ..."

A few days earlier, a Star-Telegram headline read, "Mexican police charged in attack." The article indicated that Mexican officers fired 152 rounds from assault weapons "at the black Embassy Toyota SUV ..."

Why is our government buying vehicles from Toyota, a foreign-owned producer, when at least two domestic companies that produce equivalent vehicles are struggling? What's wrong with this picture? Why is our federal government subsidizing foreign-owned companies with our tax dollars?
