FORT WORTH — A federal jury has convicted a 29-year-old man of robbing two Fort Worth banks, the U.S. attorney’s office reported.
Montray Lorenzo Cato was found guilty Monday in U.S. District Judge John McBryde's court. Sentencing was set for March 8. The maximum sentence is 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count of bank robbery.Cato held up two branches of First Convenience Bank — inside the Kroger store at 6650 N. Beach St. on June 13 and inside the Wal-Mart at 6756 W. Vickery Blvd. on July 28 — according to a news release.During both robberies, Cato wore similar clothing and held a cellphone to his ear.He was arrested Aug. 29 after employees at a third branch, inside the Kroger at 9114 Camp Bowie Blvd. W., recognized him loitering in the store and called police.Cato told officers that he was only shopping but police found a realistic plastic replica of a firearm in his waistband and discovered that Cato was carrying no money, credit cards or debits cards, suggesting otherwise, the release states.Cato’s attorney, Leigh Davis, said Wednesday that "while we respect the jury’s verdict, we do intend to appeal the conviction once sentence is imposed."Deanna Boyd, (817) 390-7655Twitter: @deannaboydHave more to add?
