A police officer responding to a call of a fight was injured Wednesday when he lost control of his patrol car and slammed into a wooden utility pole in east Fort Worth, police officials said.

The officer, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the 4800 block of Randol Mill Road near Oakland Boulevard.

The officer, who was driving with his car lights and siren on, hit a curb, skidded off the road and struck the tree. Firefighters used a hydraulic metal cutter to get him out.
