A Bowie man was in custody Monday accused in the killing of a missing Sunset woman who was last seen on Nov. 2, authorities said.

David Wayne Malone, 29, provided authorities with information during the weekend that led to the discovery of the body of a woman that had been buried in northeast Wise County.

Authorities have not positively identified the body, but they believe it to be Samantha McNorton, 28.

Initially, Malone was arrested late Thursday on suspicion of sexual assault, according to Parker County Jail records. He was then released to Wise County authorities Sunday evening and taken to the Wise County Jail in Decatur.

Malone faces a charge of murder in Wise County and he remained in the Decatur jail with bail set at $2 million, according to jail records there.

Information about the sexual assault case was unavailable Monday.

Authorities believe Malone was involved in the disappearance of McNorton and he provided details that led investigators to the burial site near County Road 2535 and Greenwood Road, authorities said.

The body found Saturday was transported to the Dallas County medical examiner's office for identification, authorities said.

Texas Rangers, Wise County sheriff's deputies and forensic anthropologists from the University of North Texas returned to the grave site Sunday morning and spent much of the day collecting evidence, Wise County Sheriff David Walker said Sunday.

"We took a long time because we wanted to get as much evidence as we could," Walker said.

McNorton was last seen Nov. 2 at the One Stop store in Runaway Bay, more than 30 miles from where the body was found.

Family members reported the Sunset mother missing Nov. 13.

Malone has a criminal history. He has been arrested 14 times since 2001 in Wise County on charges ranging from driving with a suspended license to aggravated assault, according to Wise County jail records.
