Colleyville Heritage rolls by Hebron in playoffs

A

ARLINGTON -- Colleyville Heritage overcame a 14-point first-quarter deficit to beat Hebron 50-24 in a Class 5A Region I Division II bi-district matchup Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium.

Quarterback Cody Thomas passed for 409 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Panthers (10-1) to their sixth comeback victory of the season.

Heritage will face Waco Midway (11-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Midlothian in the area round.

Coach Mike Fuller has led Heritage to the playoffs every year since arriving in 2007, but Saturday's win was his second playoff victory at the school and first since 2010.

The Hawks built a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on scoring runs of 1 and 13 yards by Jamal Adams, who finished with 72 yards, three touchdowns on the ground and added a 66-yard kick return to setup a field goal.

The Panthers answered with a pair of touchdown passes from Thomas; one from 4 yards out to Daniel Farrington and another to Nathan Crouch 51 yards down the right sideline. Crouch added an 18-yard scoring grab in the second half.

Heritage took its first lead on a 2-yard run by Thomas with 7:55 left in the first half en route to a 23-17 lead at the break. The Panthers outscored Hebron 27-7 in the second half behind its offensive line and two running backs.

Senior tailback Connor Davis caught eight passes for 85 yards and added another 64 yards and two scores on the ground. Sophomore DeMarco Corbin ran for a team-high 89 yards and caught a 17-yard touchdown.

In all, Heritage piled up 608 yards of offense and 31 first downs.
