If ever there were a time for a basketball team to feel sorry for itself, it would be now for Trent Johnson's TCU Horned Frogs.

Forward Amric Fields, who was expected to be a team leader on and off the court, will miss the rest of the season with a torn knee ligament (ACL) suffered Thursday against SMU.

The loss of Fields, coupled with freshman center Aaron Durley's season-ending knee injury before the season, has put Johnson in a roster bind barely a week into his first season with the Frogs (2-1).

TCU hosts Prairie View A&M (2-2) at 3 p.m. today at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

"It's still one game, one practice at a time," said Johnson, who said Fields was in good spirits watching Saturday's practice. "It's unfortunate, because those two guys were going to be a big part of what we were going to do this year. But we still have our goals. There's no panic mode here. We're not feeling sorry for each other. We don't want anyone feeling sorry for us."

The loss of Fields, who was averaging 7.3 points through the first two games, won't be easy to replace. Devonta Abron, who hasn't started a game this season, could be a candidate to replace Fields in the starting lineup, but he's more of an inside player compared to Fields, a strong outside shooter.

"Any time you lose one of your top two players that makes an impact and you've got to be able to replace that," Johnson said. "Some guys are going to have an opportunity to make plays."
