DESOTO -- Waco's Adrian Norwood returned two interceptions for touchdowns and forced a fumble to help Waco beat Fort Worth Wyatt 42-20 in a Class 4A Division II bi-district playoff game Friday at Eagle Stadium.
Waco (8-3) advances to the area round of the playoffs against Lake Dallas (7-4) at 1 p.m. Friday in Midlothian.
Norwood forced a fumble on Wyatt's opening drive, and Waco took over at the Wyatt 31-yard line. But the Lions came up empty after missing a 40-yard field goal attempt.
On the Chaparrals' third possession, Norwood picked off his first pass and returned it 30 yards for a score to put the Lions up 7-0 with 1:08 left in the first quarter.
The Lions scored on a 43-yard pass from Traynham Moore to Myron Hills, who caught the ball over a defender in the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 8:21 left in the second quarter.
The Chaparrals (6-5) drove 71 yards in nine plays to cut the lead to 14-7 on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Ladell Marshall to Byron Smith. Marshall connected with Smith earlier in the drive on a 30-yard gain.
Moore scored on a 1-yard run with 1:23 left in the first half, capping a six-play, 70-yard drive, and Norwood returned his second interception 55 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions a 28-7 lead at halftime.
The Lions put the game away by opening the second half with a 29-yard touchdown run by Christian Simms for a 35-7 lead.
Desmon Martin returned a fumble 44 yards for a Wyatt touchdown, and Javonte Adams added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
