NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- Chase Hamilton scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to give Fort Worth Christian the lead in overtime and the Cardinals stopped Tyler Grace Community Christian's 2-point conversion attempt to hold on to a 35-34 win Friday in a TAPPS Division II bi-district playoff at Barrow Field.
Tyler Grace took a 28-21 lead to start the fourth quarter after an 82-yard scoring drive capped by Kade Clayton's 8-yard touchdown run.
Fort Worth Christian (8-3) took possession with 7 minutes left in regulation and marched down the field. The Cardinals held the ball for 14 plays and ran down the clock. Caleb Davis completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Reese Herring with 0:23 remaining to tie the game at 28-28.
Fort Worth Christian opened overtime on offense and ran the ball five consecutive times. Hamilton finished off the series with his fourth rushing touchdown of the night to put the Cardinals up 35-28. Fort Worth Christian finished the night with 389 rushing yards on 54 attempts.
Tyler Grace (8-3) also used a power rushing offense to score a touchdown on its first possession in overtime. Clayton carried the ball five times and scored on a 5-yard touchdown run to pull the Cougars to within a point at 35-34.
The Cougars chose to go for the win with a 2-point conversion attempt following their touchdown, but a bobbled shotgun snap resulted in a fumble. Fort Worth Christian recovered the loose ball to end the game.
