Saginaw Boswell began Thursday's Class 4A Division II bi-district game at Northwest ISD Stadium averaging more than 43 points per game. The Lake Dallas defense, however, met the challenge.
The Falcons (7-4) shut out Boswell 20-0 to advance to the area round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs. They will play the winner of tonight's Waco-Fort Worth Wyatt game at 1 p.m. next Friday in Midlothian.
"The pressure they were able to get on us with their defensive front really threw us off our game," coach John Abendschan of Boswell (8-3) said. "It was Lake Dallas' night, but I'll still take my team every time. They showed me a lot this year."
The game was still scoreless early in the second quarter when Lake Dallas linebacker Jacob Jones fell on a Boswell fumble on the Falcons' 4-yard line with the Pioneers threatening on an eight-play drive.
Jones also recorded two sacks on the night. Defensive linemen Graysen Schantz and Colton Lively each notched three sacks, as Lake Dallas held Boswell to 213 total yards.
The Lake Dallas offense used great field position to scratch out a 14-0 halftime lead. On its fourth possession, Lake Dallas was set up at Boswell's 41, and took four plays to reach the end zone. C.J. Harris came open across the middle on a broken play and Marshall Dominy found him for a 29-yard touchdown with 4:18 before the half.
On Lake Dallas' next drive, Brandon Simpson scored from the 8.
The Falcons kicked two short field goals in the second half.
