Weatherford football coach Reid Waller resigns

A

After three seasons as football coach for the Weatherford Kangaroos, Reid Waller has resigned, effective Dec. 21.

During his tenure, Waller compiled a record of 7-23, including a district mark of 5-16.

"I told our kids yesterday in a meeting that I will always be there for them," Waller said Wednesday. "I may be changing my zip code, but I'm not changing my area code, so they will always be able to get in touch with me."

Waller, who has 29 years of coaching experience, was hired in June 2010 after former coach Kenny Wheaton resigned to return to Arkansas with his family. Wheaton hired Waller as defensive coordinator in 2007.

Weatherford superintendent Jeffrey Hanks expects to fill the vacancy by March.

"I'd like to thank the administration and parents for the opportunity to coach such great kids, and I'd also like to thank a fantastic faculty for working with and supporting our students," Waller said.
