I have been a NASCAR fan since 1958, having been raised in North Carolina. I am very disappointed in the attitude displayed by Texas Motor Speedway owner Bruton Smith regarding NASCAR racing in Texas versus the upcoming Formula One race in Austin. I have known about Smith since his "promoter days" at a small track in North Carolina. I think Smith and staff were very pompous in saying that only 10 fans attending last weekend's race at TMS would go to Austin.

By the look of the half-empty stands at TMS recently, Smith would be better served by looking into his own operations to put on a better show and reduce ticket and concession prices for faithful fans. In this economy, $8 for a domestic beer is outrageous when his cost is less than $1.

I would hate to see a sport where so many in the past have supported the events in good and bad times be ruined by people like Smith who must be out of touch with us fans who have made him prosperous!
