Regarding the recent town hall meeting at Lamar High School: There are 2,900 students, and 67 parents attended the meeting. Principal Larry Harmon was quoted as saying, "I'm happy with the turnout." (See: "Student discipline discussed at Lamar," Nov. 7)

By my estimate, the parental attendance was only 3 to 5 percent. My conclusion is that while 3-5 percent of the parents were concerned enough to attend the meeting, 95 per cent were not. Until more parents become involved, Lamar High School administrators and teachers are fighting a losing battle.
