I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1967, served as a forward air controller in Vietnam and completed six years in the Air Force as a captain. After that, I worked for 35 years in the oil and gas business. My wife and I have been married for 45 years and have raised two sons. I am classified as Caucasian, although I just deem myself a member of the "human" race. We attend a Presbyterian church in Houston.

I voted for President Obama and am therefore among those whom Peter Morrison, treasurer of the Hardin County Republican Party, calls "maggots."(See: "Republican Party official wants Texas out of U.S.," Nov. 9) Morrison clearly owes me, along with the majority of all voters in the Nov. 6 election, an apology.

Although I doubt a cogent explanation is possible, I am curious to learn how anyone can be so contemptuous of his fellow human beings that he can call them "maggots" and still bear to look at himself in the mirror.
