A Denton County grand jury has indicted a Lewisville woman on charges that she was drunk when she backed over two swimmers with a boat at Lake Grapevine in August.
Both swimmers were seriously injured when they were cut by the boat propeller, authorities said.Grand jurors returned two charges of intoxication assault with a vehicle last week against Amanda Renee Harrolle, 33. She was arrested at the scene, but she remained free Tuesday after posting $20,000 bail shortly after her arrest.Harrolle could not be reached Tuesday.The accident was reported about 6 p.m. on Aug. 12 in the Marshall Creek area on the northwest side of the lake.The two swimmers were in about five feet of water when the boat backed over them, Grapevine police said.The boat stopped after the women yelled that they had been hit, according to the affidavit.A passenger and owner of the boat told authorities that he had been asleep at the front of the boat at the time of the incident.The women were helped onto the boat and driven to the Dove Loop boat ramp, where they sought medical help.The two were taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. The women had severe lacerations below their waist from the propeller, authorities said.Patricia Vannoy, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden, said in an arrest affidavit that she detected a strong odor of alcohol on Harrolle's breath when she interviewed her. Harrolle said she had had three drinks of vodka and 7UP, according to the affidavit.Harrolle also failed portions of a sobriety test, the affidavit stated, and was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital H-E-B in Bedford for a mandatory blood draw and later booked into jail.Authorities did not release blood results.Domingo Ramirez Jr., 817-390-7763Twitter: @mingoramirezjrHave more to add?
