Pantego police track down suspect in 8-year-old sexual assault
ARLINGTON -- Pantego police have arrested an Arlington man who they say kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint eight years ago.
Charles Anthan Larry, 54, was arrested at his home Friday on an aggravated sexual assault warrant based on DNA evidence collected from the 2004 crime, Pantego police Detective Chris Whitwell said.
Larry, who is also known as Charles Anthony Green, has since been released on $25,000 bail, Whitwell said.
On the afternoon of Feb. 12, 2004, a woman leaving an auto parts store in the 2200 block of West Pioneer Parkway said a man grabbed her from behind and forced her into the passenger seat of her car. He got behind the wheel.
"He took her at gunpoint. They drove around for a while. He was trying to calm her down by talking to her," Whitwell said. "They didn't go very far."
The woman told police that the man pulled his hat down over her eyes so she could not see where he was taking her. He pulled the car over somewhere in Fort Worth and sexually assaulted her, telling her he was holding a pistol to her head, she reported. After he got out of the car and walked away, the woman drove herself to a hospital and contacted police.
Pantego police released a sketch of the woman's attacker to the public shortly after the assault, but no one came forward with information, Whitwell said. Then, earlier this year, the state told police about a preliminary DNA match with Larry, who was serving time at Hutchins State Jail.
Police obtained a DNA sample from Larry in May, linking him to the 2004 assault, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. The victim also identified Larry from a photo lineup.
Larry was released from prison earlier this year, Whitwell said. Pantego police arrested him on a warrant as he was leaving his home.
