Quarterback Joseph Prud'homme passed for a touchdown and ran for another to lead Fort Worth Nolan Catholic to the TAPPS Division I District 1 title with a 30-7 victory over Dallas Bishop Dunne at Doskocil Stadium on Friday night.
Nolan (8-2, 6-0) hosts El Paso Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the first round of the TAPPS playoffs.
Prud'homme connected with Pierce Braden from 12 yards out with 32.7 seconds remaining in the first half to give Nolan a 15-7 halftime lead. Nolan scored 15 unanswered points in the second half.
Nolan's rushing attack recorded 260 yards among eight different ball carriers. Running back Luke Alves had a team-high 75 yards on 13 carries.
Nolan took the opening kickoff of the second half and drove 85 yards on 22 plays, chewing up nearly 11 minutes and scoring on a Cameron Elias touchdown run. From that point, Nolan's defense took over with two interceptions and limited Dunne (4-6, 1-5) to one first down in the second half.
Both teams started off slowly, exchanging punts on each of their first two possessions. Finally Nolan broke through with Jonathan Werline returning a blocked punt by Frank Colin 20 yards for a touchdown.
Dunne came back to narrow the score to 8-7 by capping a seven-minute, 20-play drive with a Micah Simon 8-yard touchdown pass to Nic Watkins.
