BURLESON -- The first "Battle for the Boot" between Burleson and Burleson Centennial went to Centennial as the Spartans defeated their more established rival Elks 42-6 on Friday in a District 8-4A game at Burleson Stadium.
Centennial (3-6, 2-5), formed three years ago, topped Burleson (0-10, 0-7) in the schools' first varsity football meeting. The game ended Centennial's first varsity season.
Spartans senior running back Tre Burns had a big night off the bench, rushing 12 times for 56 yards and scoring touchdown runs of 4, 2 and 13 yards. Burns entered the game in the first quarter when starting running back DeMarcus Williams went out with an injury.
Tanner Hodges completed 11 of 18 passes for 211 yards and a TD in his final game as a Spartan. Hodges hit fellow senior Doug Hopkins for a 32-yard score in the third quarter. Hopkins caught four passes for 72 yards.
Burleson quarterback Isaiah Hall had 227 yards of total offense.
