JOSHUA -- Crowley closed out its undefeated run through District 8-4A with a 45-14 domination of Joshua on a windy Friday night.
As champions of 8-4A, the Eagles (9-1, 7-0) will face Granbury on Friday in the bi-district playoffs. Joshua finished 3-7, 1-6.
Eagles quarterback Matt Marner ran for a pair of scores and threw for another, all in a 31-0 first half. He completed 10 of 19 passes for 144 yards.
Jimmie Hughes came off the bench in the second half to lead Crowley in rushing with 81 yards on 13 carries, including two for touchdowns. Larry Cheeks added 50 yards on six carries. The Eagles' defense forced four turnovers.
The Owls opened the game with a failed onside kick attempt, giving Crowley the ball at the Joshua 48. But the Eagles settled for Mathew Santos' 28-yard field goal.
Later in the first quarter, Marner was flushed from the pocket and found an open cutback lane to dash 19 yards for a 10-0 lead.
Joshua miscues led to more Crowley points in the second quarter. An Eddie McNeil interception led to a 61-yard touchdown drive, and Joshua fumbled in its end zone and Miguel Sanchez recovered to push the lead to 24-0.
